Hello Claudine, Thanks for your comment. I agree too that smaller is better. Yet, there is a group of tourists that simply enjoys being around others and for who the location is of lesser importance. I also agree with you on the child programs. As least the parents will get to see all the beautiful [...]

    Hi Shaka,

About the website problems I wrote an article some time back. Here is the link. Enjoy reading it and if you like it, please RT or ’share’. http://planyoursafari.com/blog/when-safari-websites-fail-to-deliver/

    Thanks for your comment.

Hi Chris, Your first guess is spot on –> Little Mombo / Botswana The second one is spot off –> Seronera Lodge /Kenya I also agree with you that the safari industry not only attracts rich tourists. I have always been an advocate of cheaper safaris for those who are not millionairs. This does not [...]

ThumbnailSafari lodges Safari lodges and tented camps come in all different shapes and sizes. And the general rule that applies to all of them is: the bigger the cheaper, the smaller the more expensive. In a way this is quite strange. Big lodges cost a lot to build, whereas small exclusive tented camps cost relatively little to [...]

    Hi Chris,

I completely agree with you. The behaviour of the people in the video shows no respect whatsoever for Africa’s wildlife. And although I understand the actions of the lodge-guides in their vehicles,it shows once again that we people want to be captains on a ship full of animals.

    Hi Nancy,

There is absolutely no problem wearing black on a safari. One of the reasons why people where khaki is because it is a neutral color. But so is black in my opinion. So do yourself a favour and don’t spend heaps on new outfits. Black is fine!
    Enjoy your safari!

Hi Hans, I know the elephant in the video. The guy is (still) pretty harmless, so there is no real danger for the tourists in the vehicle. But, it is not like it should be. It is better to keep any animal out o your campsite at all costs, because if you don’t (like all [...]

Hello Richard, You probably get those email addresses because you might have subscribed to something in the past? I guess the most difficult problem with online marketing is to reach those people that might eventually buy your product. So the 1 million dollar question is: how do I get those email addresses without having to [...]

Hello Eleanor, And I say ‘amen’ to your comment and you are absolutely right. Online marketing comes in many forms. If images are the once that bring you followers, than please keep on doing that. In the process the name of your lodge will start to stick and eventually it will bring you business. Do [...]

ThumbnailDon’t miss the boat and start today! Web 2.0 Not so long ago I made a remark on Facebook: ‘ Johan Knols is wondering why not more safari companies embrace social media’. I received one comment from someone (thanks Kevin!) who is very active with social media and worked in the safari industry before. His answer was: ‘ I [...]

ThumbnailSometimes people don’t stop to amaze me. Especially the ones in the below video. The video was shot on the Xakanaxa public campsite in Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana and shows a bunch of happy campers playing with their lives. A few things you should pay attention to while watching: Nothing gets done to prevent the elephant from [...]

Hi Clarissa, I hear what you say about the spiritual aspect of conservation and biodiversity in general. But the general tourist, coming most of the times from the rich, rat-race absorbed places on the planet, are not busy with the spiritual side of their hard earned, expensive, safaris. I am worried that it is those [...]

    Hi Marnie,

It is often stated that it could be the influx of Chinese contractors that increases the problem. Do you agree?

    Be careful Buddy.
Because I DO wear Crocs occasionally. And man, do they walk nicely.

    Cheers. (hahaha)

    Hi Ted,
I, as well as Kevin Leo Smith, agree 100% on this approach. Thanks for commenting.

    David,
Thanks for your contribution (I saw you were a long time on the blog this morning. Yes, big brother is watching you! Haha).
Why don’t you write an article in which you explain your plans regarding the water-for-life project. I am more than willing to post it on my blog/FaceBook/Twitter pages.

    Hi Clarissa,
This is an image I found from the multi horned rhinoceros guardian from the Han period.

Hi Kevin. But is is clear that this guy sees no alternative. If he experiments with the doses of poison and looses one rhino, maybe he will be able to teach others not to go the same route or, when things DO work out, it might save the lives of many a rhino and limit [...]

I hope you have read the recent article on a different approach to the poaching of rhino horn. What do you think is the right way of addressing this problem?
