The Moment When You Want To Hug Your Pilot

On Wednesday the 20th of January 2010, a Grand Caravan from a Botswana charter company got into trouble over the Okavango Delta. Apart from the pilot, there were two staff members and two tourists on board. Due to the rigorous training that the pilot had received, he managed to save everybody on board, although the plane was ready for the shredder. From a reliable source I heard that another plane carrying a doctor and a nurse was flying in the same area and saw the Caravan go down. The pilot of this second plane quickly put his plane down on the nearby airstrip and help could be administered immediately. The passengers received minor cuts and bruises.
Having flown many times over the Delta I know how difficult it can be to find a good spot to put a plane down in case of an emergency. This pilot did very well and I like to express my congratulations for ending this potentially fatal adventure with great result. Read more..
